Strat - Update

So nearly finished! Just got to tidy up a couple of bits, make parts less uniform (mainly rotating screws etc) and create the strings. Pretty happy with how this is turning out. Has been a great learning project so far, and a great way to get my head back into modelling.

Stratocaster - Update

Hard-Edge modelling is not my forte. It really isn't in my comfort zone and I'm just trying to get my head around how the edge flow should go and how to include indenting or added details within one shape. That being said I'm learning a lot as I go. Here are a couple images of the project so far... (mainly the annoying parts I've come across)

Fender - Stratocaster

My girlfriend has kindly lent me her Stratocaster for me to model. I loved modelling the guitars last summer and with the knowledge that I have gained over this year, I thought it would be a good little project to do a very detailed and accurate model of it within Maya. It's taking a little longer than expected but the modelling done by the end of next week at the latest.

Here's one of the photos of her baby.

The Waiter - Update

Not a great deal has changed since the last update of the Waiter. However, modelling has  been finalised. I've tweaked various parts on him and edited the edge flow and what not. I also ensured that he is an all-quad mesh and that there were no sneaky triangles hiding anywhere. Next step... Sculpting! At last!

Waiter - Rendering Issue

It has been a while since I have updated on 'The Waiter'. The main reason being the image below. These polygons would never render and I could not understand why. I tried all sorts to fix it, but in the end one of the friendly Digital Tutors staff managed to help! I can finally continue this project and begin some texturing! At last!

Turns out I must have accidentally Assigned 'Invisible Faces' to these Polygons whilst modelling. No idea how, but I now know for future reference!

New Walk Cycle

So here is another walk cycle I have been working on. I am really not happy with this however. The weighting is completely off but I thought I would put it up on here for critique/feedback purposes. I've tried to tweak curves and check but I can't seem to get it to look right. I'm going to go back to the drawing board and start from scratch so I can ensure that I don't make mistakes along the way.

Notable things that need improvement:

- Left Leg seems to extend further forward than the right
- Left Foot has more weight when planted
- Knees come out too far as leg is brought forward
- Too much of a 'pigeon' movement on the head
- Left arm does not replicate movement of the Right (I can't seem to figure out why, the values appear to be the same)
- Hands - although I have not done any form of finalising on the curves hence why they intersect through the body)

Here are some playblasts...

First Walk Cycle!

So it's been a fair while since my last post. This is due to a few reasons. One, because I haven't had anything significant to show, and two... Most of my time recently has been spent learning or experimenting without any outcome worthy of uploading. Updates on the Waiter will be coming soon!

Here's a small update for the time being and a little video! I've spent a chunk of today creating my first walk cycle. There is still alot of work to be done on it (There is some hip popping and the shoulders move far too much) but it has been a great chance to learn about the Graph Editor etc. I would love to hear any feedback on it on what to improve!

The Waiter - Body Progress

So I have pretty much done the entire body today. I still need to tweak the shoes so they don't look so 'inverted', add a pocket to the Waistcoat, model his apron and a couple other tweaks here and there. Very pleased with the progress so far though... will hopefully have the rest of the modelling done tomorrow and then its on to Mudbox-ing for further refinements such as clothing wrinkles and hair definition.

The Waiter - Body Concept

Today I got a quick body reference drawn out so that I could begin modelling. My friend Ollie told me not to model in the T-Pose, but for the time being I am going to just so I don't have to worry about tricky vert-pulling. Instead I'll re-position his arms once I am done modelling.

The Waiter - Hair

Just a quick update on the hair. I wanted to keep the hair mainly 'blocky', and have the strands come out of the  fringe. I'm not sure how to integrate the strands better so they don't look so 'placed'. Any help would be appreciated!
